Job Description Job Description Military to Civilian Advocate Dyess Air Force Base – Abilene, TX $25/hour | Temporary Assignment | On-Site Role Position Overview We are seeking a Military to Civilian Advocate to support transitioning service members (TSMs), recently separated veterans (RSVs), and military spouses in successfully navigating the transition into civilian employment. This role serves as a key liaison between Dyess Air Force Base, workforce partners, training providers, and employers to promote employment, education, and career readiness opportunities. This is a grant-funded, temporary position with potential to transition into a permanent opportunity based on program growth and performance. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive intake and career assessments for TSMs, RSVs, and military spouses Translate military experience into civilian career pathways Develop individualized employment and training plans Provide one-on-one and group career counseling (résumé prep, interview skills, job search strategy) Determine eligibility and coordinate access to training, supportive services, and grant funds Partner with Business Solutions teams to match participants with job opportunities Prepare and submit Individual Training Accounts (ITAs) and related documentation Maintain accurate case notes and data entry in systems such as Work In Texas Represent the program at base events, military spouse groups, and community outreach functions Build relationships with Dyess AFB personnel, National Guard/Reserve units, and Transition Assistance offices Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Must possess and maintain access to Dyess AFB (CAC or military ID required) Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation Strong case management, communication, and organizational skills Ability to work with diverse populations and handle sensitive situations professionally Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in workforce development, counseling, social work, HR, or related field Veteran, transitioning service member, or military spouse strongly preferred Experience in workforce development, career counseling, or employment services Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus Familiarity with military culture and transition challenges Work Environment Primarily office-based at Dyess AFB Occasional travel across surrounding counties Flexible hours may be required (including occasional evenings/weekends for outreach events) Light lifting (up to 10 lbs) Important Position Details $25 per hour Temporary assignment No benefits offered during temporary period Potential pathway to full-time employment based on program development Background check and drug screening required prior to start Ideal Candidate Profile Passionate about supporting veterans and military families Comfortable conducting career-readiness assessments and coaching sessions Strong at building relationships within military and workforce communities Organized, detail-oriented, and compliance-driven Able to manage an active caseload while meeting grant performance metrics If you are a veteran, transitioning service member, or military spouse with base access and a passion for helping others succeed in civilian careers, we encourage you to apply.
