Cook IV

Performs advanced (senior-level) food preparation work. Work involves overseeing and planning the preparation, seasoning, and cooking of food; monitoring inventories and records of food consumption; and making recommendations for improvement. May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Essential Job Functions:

Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned

Oversees the preparation, seasoning, and cooking of food according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or established standards.

Oversees the inspection of food preparations and work areas to ensure sanitary conditions.

Oversees staff in setting up serving lines and serving of food as appropriate.

Oversees and evaluates the testing of formulas and standardized recipes.

Checks and tastes food during preparation for conformance to standards.

Reports kitchen equipment in need of repair or replacement.

Ensures that food is maintained at proper serving temperatures.

Reviews and recommends changes to cooking and kitchen operations to improve operating efficiency.

Reviews menus to determine types and qualities of food to be prepared.

May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.

Performs related work as assigned.

Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge of quantity food preparation techniques and procedures and of modified and calculated diet preparation methods.

Skill in cooking and baking and in the use and care of food preparation appliances and equipment.

Ability to interpret and follow recipes; to compute basic mathematical calculations; to analyze problems and recommend solutions; and to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.

Ability to read, write, and complete basic arithmetic computations use in cooking, plus one year of cooking


Formal training through an accredited vocational/technical school in a related field may substitute for the

required work experience.

Salary Note: The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range.
